Mary V. Porter, 87,of 183 Russell Road, a Bremerton resident the last 5 years, died Tuesday evening at Harrison Memorial Hospital. Born Sept 5, 1895, in Crawfordsville, Ind, she was one of 11 children born to Luther M. and Rhoda E. Douglas. The family moved to Montana in 1910. She married Hollis W. Porter Dec 10 1913 in Montana and moved to North Dakota in 1918. The Porters moved to Deer Lodge, Montana in 1933, where they lived until moving to Port Orchard in 1942. Mr. Porter died in 1952. Mrs. Porter was a practical nurse and midwife in her earlier years. She was a former member of the Deer Lodge United Methodist Church and Royal Neighbors. She began writing poetry and collecting recipes in her later years and enjoyed photography and corresponding with her grandchildren. Prior to Mr. Porter's death, they enjoyed traveling. Survivors include two sons, Wallace of Port Orchard and Russell of Sacramento, California three daughters, Florence Curtis and Hazel Adams, both of Bremerton, and Edna Atwood of Aloha, Oregon; a brother, Russell Douglas of Weiser, Idaho; two sisters, Ann Romine of Deer Lodge and Hellena Robirts of Seattle; 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Services will be Saturday at 1 at Pendelton-Gilchrist Funeral Home, Port Orchards. Burial in Sunset Lane Cemetery.
